Blacklisting 4th level domains possible? (dsl.connexus.net.au)

Can SURBL blacklist 4th level domains? "connexus.net.au" is a perfectly valid domain, but subdomains of "dsl.connexus.net.au" are a bit suspicious. I got a spam referencing 106-147.dsl.connexus.net.au, probably someone running a webserver on their DSL connection. Reading http://www.surbl.org/implementation.html and http://spamcheck.freeapp.net/two-level-tlds makes me think only 2nd and 3rd level domains can be blacklisted. Am I wrong and/or is there any chance this will change? In theory, 3rd level domains like "connexus.net.au" could be added to two-level-tlds (ok, the name would have to change), and the implementation rule would be: 1) If the tail of your domain is listed in two-level-tlds, check one level deeper. Examples: if your domain ends in "guernsey.gg", SURBL-check "whatever.guernsey.gg"; if you domain ends in "connexus.net.au", check "whatever.connexus.net.au" 2) If the domain's not listed in two-level-tlds, check 2 levels deep (eg, "whatever.com").

Zone file snapshot?

Does anyone have a recent snapshot of multi.surbl.org's zone file that they could email me? I don't need SURBL's rsync service or rbldnsd, just a recent snapshot.

Why are subdomains not blacklisted?

I received two separate spams advertising "uztiuqhcsgdnhsx.kennevur.com" and "678.com.plaweresoft.com" as the domains. multi.surbl.org lists the domains as blacklisted: > host kennevur.com.multi.surbl.org kennevur.com.multi.surbl.org has address 127.0.0.86 > host plaweresoft.com.multi.surbl.org plaweresoft.com.multi.surbl.org has address 127.0.0.118 but not the subdomains: > host uztiuqhcsgdnhsx.kennevur.com.multi.surbl.org Host uztiuqhcsgdnhsx.kennevur.com.multi.surbl.org not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) > host 678.com.plaweresoft.com.multi.surbl.org Host 678.com.plaweresoft.com.multi.surbl.org not found: 3(NXDOMAIN) Why? Kelly, There is a long (2-3 paragraph) answer for the general question "Why are subdomains not blacklisted?", but the short answer is that it is the responsibility of the program or spam filter making use of SURBL to remove the extra levels and check "kennevur.com" against SURBL instead of "uztiuqhcsgdnhsx.kennevur.com" In this situation, a good filter will not bother checking the longer version but would know to extract just the domain name for checking. Guestbook spam

I would like to use surbl to scan the fields of our guestbook service and then deny entries based on the results. I am currently using perl and MySQL for the service and was wondering if there are any perl modules that can be used for my purposes. Chris

hi folks, i setup a test service realizing the trackback Protocol as defined by: http://www.sixapart.com/pronet/docs/trackback_spec This service is currently under development, and free, but in near future it will be a service for registered users only. We have some customers working already with this "trackback-Proxy" each getting rid of 400+ blogspams leaving some 2 or 3 comments for a real review.
