I noticed that a number of their domains are in the surbl whitelist (more specifically bfi0.com), even though it is obvious to me that they are a spamhaus. Are they truly "whiter" than they appear, or would blocking them cause too much collateral damage (FPs)?

Believe it or not, legimate businesses -do- use bfi0.com. capitalone sends its banking notices to its custmers thru bfi0.com, Target & MarshallFields also use bfi0.com.
I had to put in whitelist entries in my SA config to make sure that they got delivered.
